Home Theater-Sized: Sony’s 98-Inch TV
Designing a Home Theater System with Sony’s 8 ft TV
In our last blog post, we wrote about a recent home theater project we completed with a Bang & Olufsen surround sound system. We highlighted the powerful sound and customizable finishes offered by B&O speakers—but audio is only half of the equation.
On the visual side of the home theater, our client opted for Sony’s X90L TV, a 98-inch wonder in 4K HDR. While most people envision a projector system for their home theater, the Sony X90L’s size rivals any projector screen while delivering richer, fuller colors.
Let’s examine this eight-foot Sony TV and explore how you can complete your own TV setup in Parkland, FL.

8 Feet of 4K
In the past, projector systems were crucial in home theaters because most TVs weren’t large enough to take up your field of vision. For a home theater to be truly immersive, you need the screen to fill your field of view.
Now, TVs like Sony’s X90L are available 98 inches wide with a Full Array LED 4K screen. Unlike edge-lit televisions that only have LEDs placed along the edges, Full Array displays use a grid of tiny, evenly distributed LEDs. This creates more precise control over lighting and dimming, achieving deeper, richer blacks and enhanced contrast ratio.
So unlike projector screens, which can appear faded during the day, the Sony X90L appears bright, vibrant, and lifelike in any setting. The TV also features XR Clear Image and XR 4K Upscaling to enhance HD and digital content as you watch.
For this project, we mounted the eight-foot TV flush to the wall (not an easy feat) and integrated it with the rest of the home theater technology.
Home Theater Control by Control4
Controlling a home theater should be intuitive, and we wanted to make it easy for this homeowner. So, we installed a Control4 smart system that connects to the speakers, TV, media players, lighting, and more. With one command, the family can activate the entire system and get ready for showtime in seconds.
No longer will the household juggle multiple remotes and switches. In fact, they only need one remote: Control4’s Halo touchscreen remote. All controls are there, letting them swipe through rooms and ‘scenes’ and pull up their favorite streaming service or media library. If they prefer to use the Control4 app, they can do so on their smartphone or tablet, too.
Save & Store 4K Movies with Kaleidescape
Streaming is an imperfect way to enjoy movies and shows. If the internet connection cuts out, you end up with buffering or pixelated screens. But Blu-rays and DVDs, while high-quality, are inconvenient when you’re ready to watch something now.
That’s why we suggested adding a Kaleidescape media server to the home theater. It offers all the convenience of streaming with the stability and quality of a DVD collection. You can purchase 4K, HD, and Dolby Atmos-format movies within the Kaleidescape virtual store, where they’ll stay forever. You don’t have to worry about movies leaving like they do on Netflix; they’re permanently yours.
You can access your Kaleidescape library wherever you have a Kaleidescape movie player. This homeowner can now purchase new 4K movies whenever they want and instantly watch them with smooth, uninterrupted performance.
