Creating a Luxury Bahamian Home with Smart Lighting Control
The First Priority Audio team recently went international, swapping our Palm Beach, FL, locale for The Bahamas!
In our last blog post, we shared our recent work at a Bahamas private club. We upgraded the general manager’s residence with the latest smart home technology, leading an example for prospective homeowners in the club’s community.
Let’s take a closer look at one of the most exciting elements of the project: smart lighting control. Here’s how our lighting upgrades will enhance the general manager’s lifestyle in more ways than one.

The Technology: Control4 Lighting System
The backbone of the installation was the Control4 lighting system. This advanced system allows centralized management of every light in the house, accessible via touchscreens, smartphones, and custom-engraved wall keypads.
The Control4 smart system's flexibility means the household can tailor their lighting to complement any activity or mood, such as relaxed family dinners or lively parties.
On the Control4 app, the general manager can swipe through rooms or scenes, activating multiple lights and areas simultaneously. When leaving the house, the manager can tap “All Off” on a wall keypad or app, and the entire house powers off in an instant.
Preset Scenes and Automation
Within the Control4 platform, we programmed a variety of preset lighting scenes the general manager can activate with the touch of a button. Picture a scene like “Evening” that dims lights to a warm, inviting glow, perfect for unwinding after a long day.
Alternatively, an “Entertaining” scene can brighten living spaces and highlight architectural details to impress guests. A “Morning” scene can raise motorized shades and brighten windowless areas with bright, cool-toned lighting.
A Vacation Home with Remote Access
Given the home’s location in the Bahamas—a frequent destination for holidays—it’s incredibly advantageous to control lighting from afar. The general manager can adjust lights, set timers, or activate scenes remotely through the Control4 app, providing both security and convenience even when miles away.
Enhancing Energy Efficiency
Smart lighting isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s also eco-friendly. Automated timers and motion sensors only operate lights when needed, significantly cutting down on unnecessary energy usage.
LED fixtures are inherently more energy efficient than CFL or incandescent lights, and by dimming lights even a minuscule amount, you can reduce energy consumption automatically.
Personalized Touch with Custom-Engraved Controls
To maximize ease of use, we included custom-engraved keypads throughout the home. Each keypad is labeled for specific scenes or functions—whether it’s dimming lights in the media room or activating bright task lighting in the kitchen. This personalization simplifies daily life, making complex systems intuitive to navigate.
